President Akufo-Addo acknowledges that the IMF deal will not provide an immediate end to the current economic challenges. He recognizes that additional efforts and measures are necessary to address and overcome these challenges.
However, he noted that the assistance provided by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will contribute to the revival of infrastructure projects that have been suspended throughout the country.
Speaking during his address to the nation on Sunday, 28th May, 2023, the President emphasized that the availability of the IMF facility does not guarantee an immediate end to the ongoing challenges.
Nevertheless, he expressed optimism that the agreement sends a positive message to creditors and investors, which should restore confidence and open up opportunities that were previously unavailable.
“Access to the IMF facility will not spell the immediate end of the difficulties we are in presently. But the fact that we’ve been able to negotiate such a deal sends a positive message to our creditors and investors.”
