Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus found himself in an unexpected confrontation with Frank Kwaku Appiah, commonly known as Appiah Stadium, a well-known supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), during a stop at Prempeh I International Airport.
The West Ham United star was visibly irritated by the constant scolding from Appiah Stadium, who accused him of underperforming for the Ghana national team.
The incident unfolded as Kudus and the rest of the Black Stars were preparing to depart for Morocco ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger. Kudus had paused to take photos with excited airport staff when Appiah Stadium began loudly criticizing the player, questioning why Kudus couldn’t replicate his impressive Premier League form while playing for Ghana.
Initially, Kudus chose to ignore the remarks and continued interacting with fans. However, as the criticism intensified, the midfielder was forced to respond. Visibly fed up, Kudus retorted, “Do you need the goals more than me?” The sharp response drew support from airport staff and other onlookers, who urged Appiah Stadium to cease his verbal attack on the player.
Despite the tension, Kudus eventually walked away to rejoin his teammates and coaching staff as they boarded their flight to Morocco. The Black Stars are scheduled to face Niger on Monday, September 9, 2024, in their second match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This follows their disappointing 1-0 loss to Angola in the opening game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. All eyes will be on Kudus and his teammates as they seek to bounce back with a victory.
