A member of the security apparatus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Agbey, has alleged that as part of the ongoing Limited Voter registration exercise being undertaken by the Electoral Commission across the country, some officers of the Ghana Immigration Service have been asked to leave their present posts.

He claimed that these officials, who are particularly stationed at places that are considered border towns in the strongholds of the NDC, have been supposedly asked to relocate.

This, he added, is to allow for the EC, in connivance with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to influence the process of voter registration.

In a statement made available to GhanaWeb, James Agbey said that this info is something he is aware of due to intelligence.

“I, James Agbey, acting in my capacity as operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have become aware of some clandestine activities of the Electoral Commission (EC) to undermine the ongoing limited registration exercise ahead of the 7th December polls.

“In fact, there is ample evidence that links the commission directly to registration fraud. Similarly, intelligence report picked up on the Electoral Commission (EC)’s limited registration which started earlier today indicate an official culpability and manipulation in the allocation of electoral officials for the selected district offices of the EC.

“I also have it on authority that immigration personnel stationed at the border towns in NDC strongholds are being asked to leave post to pave way for the NPP and the EC to collude and manipulate the registration exercise,” he wrote.

James Agbey further made reference to the previous Limited Voter Registration where he said “Everyone recalls with disappointment, the reported widespread irregularities and manipulations that marred the last limited registration exercise.

“Predictably, we have ample evidence indicating a planned manipulation geared towards registration fraud in the current exercise.”

He then warned the EC and its chairperson, Jean Mensa, to ensure that they do not influence the process or else they will be met squarely by the NDC.

Meanwhile, the EC has started the Limited Voter Registration across the country from Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to Monday, May 27, 2024.
