The family of Christian Atsu, who died in a tragic earthquake in Turkey last month, have announced that his final funeral rites will take place on Friday, March 17, 2022.

The announcement was made during a one-week observation ceremony held at the Adjringanor Astro Turf in Accra on Saturday.

Atsu’s remains were transported to Ghana a few weeks ago to enable preparations for the funeral. After discussions with the government and the Ghana Football Association, the family said on Saturday final rites will be held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra. The government had earlier promised to ensure that Atsu received a dignified burial.

The 31-year-old Atsu played 64 times for the Black Stars and contributed 19 goals. He spent the majority of his career playing in the Premier League for clubs such as Chelsea and Everton.

The final funeral rites are expected to be attended by several dignitaries, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and other notable public figures. It will be a solemn occasion to pay tribute to the late footballer and his contributions to the game.

Atsu’s death came as a shock to many in the football world, and his loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and fans. The funeral is expected to be a fitting tribute to a talented player who made a significant impact during his career.
