The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has convened a meeting on Wednesday to address the deadlock between presidential contenders Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
The goal is to reach a resolution and finalize the list of five candidates for the forthcoming presidential primaries set for November 4.
Following the initial voting round, both candidates garnered an equal tally of nine votes, necessitating a run-off scheduled for Saturday, September 2, to determine the victor.
Nonetheless, the party is actively seeking alternatives to the run-off scenario and has urged both contenders to withdraw their candidacy in favor of the other. Up until now, neither aspirant has consented to this proposition.
The NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council will convene on Wednesday to engage in discussions regarding this matter.
Stephen Ntim, the NPP Chairman, shared during a media interview after conferring with the contenders that the forthcoming Wednesday meeting will yield a decision that prioritizes the party’s interests.
“Understanding will prevail eventually for the party to move on. For the two aspirants with a tie, it is just a matter of prevailing on them if one could give in to the other but it looks like they are all prepared to go in with full haul so we are getting ready to meet tomorrow.
“NEC will meet followed by National Council, we are trying to find a solution or finality to the dialogue that we are having,” he stated.
