Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, the Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, has expressed strong criticisms of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership as his tenure comes to an end.
The traditional leader described the President’s administration as one marked by corruption, missed opportunities, and strained relations with traditional authorities.
Speaking in an interview monitored by InsiderGH.com, Nana Abodade III did not hold back in his assessment of the President’s governance, saying, “Ghana has been stripped naked; the robbers have stolen all the goodies.” He further suggested that many traditional leaders share his view, stating, “A lot of chiefs are happy… Some of us are happy that his reign is coming to an end.”
The Krontihene highlighted what he perceived as disrespectful behavior by President Akufo-Addo toward chiefs, pointing to instances where chiefs were allegedly instructed to stand and greet him. “Let’s see if he [Akufo-Addo] will now go around and instruct chiefs to stand up and greet him,” he remarked, suggesting that such actions undermined the dignity of traditional authorities.
Reflecting on the President’s tenure, Nana Abodade III expressed regret over what he considered missed opportunities for development. “He could have achieved much more,” he stated, lamenting the lack of progress in key areas under the administration. “We pray we never have another Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana,” he added.
Nana Abodade III’s comments come at a time when public discourse on the legacy of President Akufo-Addo’s leadership is intensifying. While the administration has been credited with initiatives like the Free Senior High School program, critics have pointed to issues such as corruption, economic challenges, abuse of power, alleged state capture and governance concerns as key failures.
The Krontihene’s remarks also reflect the frustration of some traditional leaders and citizens who believe that the President’s administration fell short of expectations.
