James Gunu as Regional Minister

Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister Designate

Kindly share
Hon. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced his concerns regarding recent reports suggesting that the Ghana Revenue Authority is contemplating imposing taxes on bloggers, influencers, and MCs.

In a statement addressing these developments, Mr. Gunu expressed his deep surprise at what he sees as a stark contrast between the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign promises and their actions in office.

He noted that during their campaign, the NPP pledged to transition from a taxation-focused approach to one that fosters production and economic growth.

However, he finds it perplexing that they have instead embraced an approach of taxing virtually every facet of the Ghanaian life.

Mr. Gunu’s concerns extend beyond the proposed taxes on digital content creators. He fears that if this trend continues unchecked, the NPP government may even consider imposing taxes on cherished national traditions, such as birthday celebrations.

He emphasized the unfortunate predicament of an already overburdened Ghanaian population, asserting that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led NPP administration appears to persist in implementing what he regards as excessively oppressive tax measures.

Mr. Gunu’s remarks underscore the importance of a balanced approach to taxation, one that fosters economic growth without placing an unbearable burden on the citizens. He called for a reconsideration of these taxation policies, urging the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens while ensuring sustainable revenue generation.

He stressed that the only way to end this everyday imposition of draconian taxes is to vote out the NPP in the 2024 elections.

As the debate on taxation continues, the Ghanaian public eagerly awaits further developments on this issue, hoping for a fair and equitable taxation system that promotes prosperity and economic well-being for all.
