Lawyers for the family of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba have clarified that plans for his funeral remain firmly in place for December 13, 2025.
Fati Ali-Yallah, counsel for the family head (Abusuapanin), said there has been no directive from the family leadership to alter the arrangements.
“The funeral will still hold on December 13 as communicated earlier because Abusuapanin has not communicated that otherwise,” she told the media after the Kumasi High Court delivered its ruling on November 28, 2025.
Her statement comes amid objections from Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Fosuh, who maintains the ceremony should not proceed on that date. She argues that the timing is unsuitable for some of the late musician’s children and believes a postponement is necessary.
Court decision on marital status
In a major development, the Kumasi High Court has determined that Akosua Serwaa cannot present herself as the sole surviving wife of Daddy Lumba.
The ruling, delivered by Her Ladyship Justice Mrs. Dorinda Smith Arthur (PhD), stated that Akosua Serwaa failed to establish evidence of a civil marriage with the musician. According to the 74-page judgment, the relationship between the two qualified only as a customary marriage.
The court also recognized Odo Broni, known privately as Priscilla Ofori, as a legally acknowledged wife of the late artiste, affirming that she is entitled to all rights due a widow.
The ruling settles a long-running dispute over marital claims, even as preparations continue toward the funeral date set by the family head. Fati Ali-Yallah, counsel for the family head (Abusuapanin), said there has been no directive from the family leadership to alter the arrangements.
