Madam Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), praised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for returning to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), saying their return is a great benefit to all.
In March 2020, the NDC after much disagreement with the EC abandoned IPAC, a creation of the Electoral Commission made of representatives of all registered political parties who meet to build consensus on the processes adopted by the EC, which has been instrumental in ensuring that the EC executes its mandate smoothly since they get the buy-in of all political parties.
However, since December 2023, the NDC has rejoined IPAC meetings and participated fully in its deliberations.
“I think it is great to have the NDC back. As you yourself mentioned they have been missing at IPAC for a long time. We are well aware that they are very important stakeholders in our body politics. They are the main opposition. And they constitute a formidable force. It is a great benefit to all of us that they have returned to IPAC,” Madam Jean Mensa said in an interview with Joy News.
She lauded the party for their constructive contributions that have greatly aided the work of the EC.
“The discussions have been going on very well. They have been very constructive. It has been valuable feedback that has come from the NDC as well as some of the other parties… So for the just-ended registration exercise there was valuable feedback that the NDC brought on board and we have considered quite a number of ideas and the suggestions and we have taken them on board so we continue to engage in a constructive way,” she added.
