Commuters and patrons of GOIL took to social media to lament lack of fuel at majorGOILfuel retail outlets in the capital in what industry players attribute toGold for Oil.
The complaints came amidst an Annual General Meeting (AGM) by the Managment, Board and shareholders of GOIL in Accra.
GOIL did not immediately offer any explanation as to why many of his outlets in Accra and it’s environs were experiencing shortages and turning away customers due to lack of fuel.

Area complained about lack of fuel. Patrons from Kwabenya, Madina, Dodowa Road, Spintex Road GOIL, Osu GOIL, Nima and 37 all complained about the lack of fuel when they visited.
This is the second time in less than a month that GOIL is facing shortages of fuel.
In April, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) indicated that the mode of implementation of the Gold for Oil Policy is the cause of the shortage of fuel at some GOIL fuel stations. Less than two months later, GOIL is facing new shortages again.
In April, some GOIL fuel stations at Tudu, 37, Tantra hill in Accra and some other pumps across the country show that GOIL has been lacking fuel, most specifically, Petrol.
According to the Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah it could be as a result of the the Gold for Oil Policy which he said has disrupted the market and may have caused the shortage.
“If you are asking cash for Gold for Oil products when the other traders could simply bring them products on credit, you will simply lead to market disruptions. I will not be surprised to see that at some point we will abandon the programme altogether because it probably might not be bad if you look at the premise of it trying to save the forex situation but as to whether the module where you bring in so much documentation before you are able to buy the products before that you need to make available ready cash, the market does not operate like that.”
