Supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Gushegu constituency have threatened to resist any attempts by their opponents to transfer strangers into the constituency to participate in the upcoming general elections in December this year.
This became clear in a video by the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Yussif Malimali widely circulated on various social media platforms, warning that they will resist anyone who is not from the area, but wants to vote in the elections to choose a leader for them.
According to him, such acts happened last elementary in 2020, adding that the fact that such persons were not stopped doesn’t mean they will be allowed this time around.
“During this transfer exercise, we expect to see people who transferred their votes to Gushegu in the last elections to transfer them back to their constituencies. We are pleading with them to stay out of Gushegu politics. The elections are for natives of Gushegu to decide who leads them, not strangers”, the NDC’s candidate said in the video.
“This time we the NDC are prepared for such people. In the interest of peace, we are calling on non natives to leave Gushegu politics for to choose our leaders. Anyone with this intention should know his life is important than the money he will take to do the transfer”, he added.
The Gushegu constituency is was seen to be NDC’s stronghold, until the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won it in 2016 and retained the seat in 2020 with the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lawyer Hassan Tampuli.
The NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo had 31,021 to beat the NDC’s John Drammami Mahama who had 26,414, while Hassan Tampuli polled 30,401 to beat Yussif Malimali with 28,055.
