An Accra Court hearing the case of Asamoah Gyan and his ex wife Gifty Gyan has vindicated the ex-wife of the footballer confirming the three kids between the ex-couple belong to Asamoah Gyan, awarding huge costs in favour of Gifty Gyan.
After a three year legal battle in which Asamoah Gyan claimed he was not the father of their three children and calling for an annulment of their marriage, the court ruled that the three kids belong to Asamoah Gyan charging him to pay Gifty Gyan GHS25,000 every month for the three kids excluding their school fees, medical and dental care, flight tickets among other child care costs, MyNewsGh.com confirmed.
Further, the court also awarded Asamoah Gyan’s House in the United Kingdom to Gifty Gyan as compensation as well as a 4 Bedroom House located at Spintex in Accra.
A Luxury BMW vehicle belonging to the football star as well as an Infiniti was also given by the court to Gifty Gyan.
MyNewsGh.com checks in court today also revealed a huge parcel of executive land acquired by Asamoah Gyan for a filling station was awarded to Gifty Gyan.
What saved Asamoah Gyan in Court
On the subject of the marriage between the two, the court annulled the marriage using a technicality employed by Asamoah Gyan’s lawyers.
According to the lawyer, before marrying Asamoah Gyan, Gifty Gyan was already married to someone else hence her marriage to Asamoah Gyan is null and void.
The court found out that Gifty Gyan did indeed marry someone but it was for Visa purposes which counsel for Gifty Gyan argued that Asamoah Gyan knew about that “marriage of convenience”.
In 2002, a then “broke” Asamoah Gyan allegedly agreed to have Gifty Gyan take a contract marriage because he wanted her to get a UK visa in 2002 for medical treatment. Asamoah was said to be ‘broke’ at the time. A marriage of convenience was hence fixed between Gifty and her relative who was then and still based in London to enable her to get a visa. Lawyers for Gifty Gyan told the court that Asamoah Gyan cannot claim not to know about that marriage which is now using against his wife to seek annulment.
The court in ruling noted that at the time the supposed “first marriage” by Gifty Gyan took place, she was clearly a minor and couldn’t have legally entered a marriage. The court nevertheless annulled the marriage between Asamoah Gyan and Gifty Gyan and awarded properties to Gifty Gyan.
The court noted that despite the annulment if the marriage, the kids which Asamoah Gyan claimed were not his are actually his children confirmed by court-sanctioned DNA test. Asamoah Gyan’s claims of infidelity using the kids’ paternity was dismissed.
