Former Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Volta Region have issued a compelling call to the DCE for South Tongu, Hon. Seth Kwesi Agbi, expressing deep concern over the apparent challenges faced by the South Tongu District Assembly in distributing relief items to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

In a brief engagement with journalists at Sogakope on Tuesday November 14, 2023, they highlighted their shock at the current state of the district’s operations, emphasizing the contrast with the progressive and proactive district they left for the NPP.

The former Municipal and District Chief Executives, led by Hon. James Gunu , Hon. Sylvester Tornyeava, and Hon. Kofi Lawson, expressed dismay at the potential demotivation of donors due to delays in the distribution of relief items.

According to them, further delays in distributing the relief items may lead to the expiration of some of the items which will be detrimental to the health of the recipients.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the constraints faced by the DCE and the entire Assembly, the Former Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Volta Region proposed practical suggestions to overcome the challenges.

These suggestions include the utilization of Internally Generated Funds (IGF), directing 1D1F taxes for transportation needs, engaging 1D1F factories for corporate social responsibility, seeking support from local corporate bodies, and tapping into the government’s $1 million per constituency allocations, if it is in existence.

They stressed the urgency of the matter, emphasizing that swift action is crucial to maintain the trust and confidence of generous donors who contributed to the relief efforts.

They called on Hon. Agbi to implement these suggestions promptly to ensure the expedited distribution of relief items to the affected individuals in the South Tongu District.
