Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, has clarified that Pastor Mensa Otabil, the Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has never actively participated as a member of the National Cathedral Board, despite his selection by the president.
According to Dr. Aryee, Pastor Mensa Otabil had chosen to withdraw from the board before they were officially inaugurated.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s political show, “Me Man N’ti,” Dr. Joyce Aryee disclosed that Pastor Mensa Otabil’s decision to leave the board was related to his ministry.
The National Cathedral construction, which President Akufo-Addo personally pledged to God during his 2016 campaign for power, has faced significant criticism after state funds were allocated to the project.
“When we were called to form the board, the first person who opted to leave because he was also building his church was Pastor Mensah Otabil. He doesn’t want any conflict so he stepped aside. He was never part of us who were incorporated into office,” She stated.
The National Cathedral project, which is currently at the foundation level and has already utilized a significant amount of funds, has been marred by several scandals.
As a result, there have been calls for audits and investigations to shed light on these issues.
Additionally, some members of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral have resigned from their positions.
