The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended 184 members in the Yendi constituency for violating the party’s constitution. This unanimous decision was made during an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on December 23, 2024, and will take effect from December 26, 2024.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Constituency Executives, the Council of Elders, the Council of Patrons, and members of the Disciplinary Committee. After reviewing multiple complaints, the committee concluded that the actions of the suspended members undermined the party’s integrity and unity.
According to Alhaji Baba Gazali, the NPP Chairman in Yendi, the suspensions followed allegations of severe misconduct. These included running as independent candidates against the party’s official nominee, openly supporting other political parties, endorsing independent candidates during the December 7, 2024, elections, and refusing to contribute to party efforts in the recent elections.
The party invoked its constitutional provisions to address these issues. Members who contest elections as independents or align with rival parties automatically forfeit their membership. Additionally, those accused of misconduct may face suspension while their actions are reviewed by the Disciplinary Committee. Individuals found guilty could face permanent expulsion.
The NPP leadership stressed the importance of unity and discipline, especially after the challenges of the recent elections. They reiterated their commitment to enforcing the party’s constitution to maintain order and strengthen loyalty within the ranks. This decisive action signals the party’s resolve to uphold its core principles and ensure cohesion moving forward.
