Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, the Executive Director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has questioned why the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is leading the charge against LGBTQ+ activities in the country.
According to Prof. Prempeh, the Speaker of Parliament is having no legislative vote and is required by law to be neutral as much as possible to ensure the passage of bills and not to lead the front line like he is currently doing.
Expressing his opinion on the issue, Prof. Prempeh took to popular social media platform Facebook, to make known his thoughts.
He indicated that “how a Speaker who is not a Member of and has no legislative initiative or vote in the business of the House gets to make himself into the cheerleader for a bill, including personally guaranteeing its passage, just beats me.”
“He is cast more in the mould of the Speaker in Westminster, not the Speaker of the House of Representatives in Washington,” he further stated.
