The Secretary of the University of Ghana branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG), Professor Ransford Gyampo has disclosed that henceforth, UTAG will only honour productive meetings concerning their ongoing strike.

According to him, meetings that cannot commit government to honour its obligations towards lecturers in improving their Conditions of Service are inconsequential.

He stressed that UTAG members need an improvement in their conditions of service and not the calling of several meetings.

He noted that UTAG will not allow others to use them to create the impression as if they are working by calling for meetings with leaders of UTAG.

“UTAG, we must only honor meetings that are productive. Others cannot use us to create the impression as if they are working by calling us to meetings. Meetings that cannot commit government to honor its obligations towards us in improving our Conditions of Service are inconsequential. We need cash, we don’t need meetings,” he stated.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana have withdrawn their services (teaching and related activities) from Monday, 10th January, 2022 until further notice.

According to UTAG, the strike action is in response to “the worsening Conditions of Service (CoS) of the University Teacher and the failure of the Employer in addressing the plight of UTAG members within the agreed timelines.”
