The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. James Gunu has reacted to the recent press conference organized by his party on 30th August 2021, as a response to an earlier press conference organized by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Gunu believes that the NPP has no morale grounds to respond to Former President Mahama’s complains about the mismanagement of the economy and the unsustainable debt hole the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has plunged the country in the manner in which they did.
He stressed that the economic hardships the nation is experiencing, are the direct effects of the mismanagement of the economy through reckless squandering of scarce resources to secure re-election in 2020, which has left the nation’s finances in shambles.
According to him, the excessive corruption and borrowing by President Akufo-Addo and his government has led the nation into a situation where “we are barely able to service our debts, pay the salary of Public sector workers and have anything significant left to meet critical expenditure.”
“Since the mother serpent has wofully failed in fulfilling the promise he made to Ghanaians in 2016 to protect the public purse, he and his appointees must be vaccinated against corruption, which they have normalized, in order to save the country,” Mr. Gunu stated.
He noted that, the BOST scandal, PDS scandal, inflated GPS App, inflated Ameri-Novation deal in 2018, Agyapa, PPA “Donkomi” Contracts, missing excavators and many other uncountable scandals of th Akufo-Addo Government are all enough proofs of the fact that corruption has become part of the DNA of President Akufo-Addo and his appointees.
He went ahead to urge Ghanaians not to give up because there is hope and his party, the NDC shall come and save the nation from the current crop of corrupt officials not only for the current generation but for the benefit of even unborn generations.
According to Mr. Gunu, the Akufo-Addo led NPP administration’s unreadiness to fight corruption has paved way for a large-scale corruption at all sectors of government, coupled with looting and abuse of the public purse.
He believes that the only way to force the NPP to account for their large-scale corruption and unprecedented abuse of the public purse is to vote them out in 2024 after their eight-year tenure.
He also noted that every effort humanly possible must be made to kick them out of government in 2024.
