The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. James Gunu has reacted to last Friday’s showdown in Parliament.
Speaking with Mohammed Zain Abidina on Dabala-based Sela Radio on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 in an interview monitored by InsiderGH.com, Mr. Gunu stated that the rejection of the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy is the best Christmas and New Year gift from Minority MPs to Ghanaians.
According to him, the action of the Minority MPs is a way of putting money into the pockets of Ghanaians.
He explained that, by virtue of the rejection of the 2022 Budget Statement, the 1.75% E-levy charges that the Akufo-Addo-led administration wants Ghanaians to be paying on electronic transactions will remain in their [Ghanaians] pockets.
He further stated that, considering the everyday increase in fuel prices and the bad nature of the economic conditions of Ghanaians under the Akufo-Addo-led administration, adding the draconian e-levy will make things worse.
Mr. Gunu also thanked Parliament, especially the Minority MPs for taking a line of action that reflects the real will of the Ghanaian People.
He stressed that when government removes the E-levy, Egyapa deal, and most importantly make provisions for the tidal wave situation in Keta and other parts of the Volta Region in the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, the House will surely consider it for approval.
