The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. James Gunu has reacted to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) nomination list which was released yesterday, September 19, 2021.
According to him, in the Volta Region, the President only focused on rewarding those who see their fellow Voltarians as foreigners by appointing them as MMDCEs in the region.
He believes that the entire process of appointing the MMDCEs itself has no constitutional leg to stand on despite the impression that was created.
According to him, the MMDCEs nomination list doesn’t reflect the 9 month delay.
In terms of gender balance in the nomination list for Volta Region, Mr. Gunu noted that “the President is not gender sensitive in the case of volta even though he moved it from zero to one.”
According to him, Former President John Dramani Mahama appointed 5 female MDCEs in the Volta Region.
He listed Fafa Agbai, Former DCE for North Tongu, Angela Alowu-Tay, Former DCE for Afadjato South, Fafa Adinyira, Former MCE for Ho Central, Merry Agbenyenu, Former DCE for Central Tongu and Paulina Adinyira, Former MCE for Kpando as the females noted during the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration.
Mr. Gunu, who is a local governance expert and a former District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, has written several articles in which he explained the need for assembly members to vet the nominees before approval and the security challenges before, during and after the approval of the MMDCE nominees.
