A Member of the Hohoe NDC, Frank Selorm Ankutse says President Akuffo Addo is not living up to his campaign promise to protect the public purse.

Mr. Frank Selorm Ankutse was reacting to Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa’s Facebook comment on the increase in salaries of presidential staffers on Lorlornyo FM’s Daybreak programme.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, indicated that the salaries of presidential staffers shot up from GH¢136.2m in 2020 to GH¢823.8m in 2021.

He attributed the increase to the creation of “amorphous positions” at the Office of Government Machinery.

Frank Selorm Ankutse finds it difficult to comprehend reasons the NPP which criticized the John Mahama led government of having too many presidential staffers find itself in such a situation.

He agreed with Mr. Ablakwa that most of the positions created at the office of the government machinery are unnecessary indicating they were done to create jobs for members of the party.

He expected the government which admitted that the country’s economy is struggling to cut down on its expenditure rather than spending on irrelevant businesses that will not inure to the benefit of the country.

He believed government’s expenditure is geared towards the generation of resources to support its 2024 campaign with a call on well-meaning Ghanaians to speak out against the practice.
