The Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. James Gunu has expressed his views on the hidden agenda of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) deliberately aimed at achieving their so called Break the 8.
Break the 8 is basically the slogan for NPP’s plan to break the 8 years governance circle and remain in power for a longer period than the usual 8 years.
In 2024, Ghana would have had a combined thirty-two years of democratic governance between the two major political parties in the fourth republic.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) like the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have each done sixteen years of two consecutive terms of an eight-year administration under various presidents.
According to Mr. Gunu, the recent “MMDCEs nomination, closure of our land borders are all part of NPP’s so called breaking the eight agenda.”
Mr. Gunu believes that the NPP is trying so hard to use the nomination of MMDCEs and the refusal to open land borders as an avenue to ensure their Break the 8 Agenda.
The “Grassroot Man” as he is affectionately called, made this known in a short interview with InsiderGH.com on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
Considering the level of commitment to accelerate socio-economic and infrastructural development across the country, and the rareness of social intervention programmes, coupled with the high cost of living and the continuous increase in the price of goods and services under the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration, many also believe that the Break the 8 Agenda is a figment of their [NPP] own imagination which would not come to pass.
