A former presidential staffer under Former President John Dramani Mahama and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, P.V Jantuah Dadson Boateng is on his way to court to stop the Ministry of Health from pulling down the 45 year old Maternity and Children Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

He says the whole agenda to pull down the imposing 9-storey edifice is an attempt to steal money from the state because, according to him, all the reasons given so far are untenable.

Contributing to discussions on Pure Morning Drive with Nana Kwame Adjei Bohyen on Kumasi-based Pure FM on Monday morning, he said “I’m going to court tomorrow; there is no way that I will allow them to pull down that building.

The building would not be standing after 45 years if it was weak as they want as to believe. I suspect that they are planning to steal our money and i will not let that happen.”

But the Ministry of Health has told journalists that the building would have to be pulled down because it failed a structural integrity test by the new contractors, Contracta UK Ltd.

In its place, a new 500 bed facility would be erected at the same spot, shorting the original project design by 250 beds. It would however be completed within a space of three years at the same cost of 155 million Euros, that was intended for the completion of the old project.
