The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarku, has made an interesting revelation about how the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) used the 25 million dollars meant for the production of sugar to produce alcohol.

The Cape Coast North lawmaker the 25 million dollars which the NPP used to produce alcohol instead of sugar was secured during Former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

He made this revelation while speaking in an interview with Kwamena Owusu Agyemang
on ‘HardBall’ – a political talk show hosted by on Accra-based Hot 93.9FM.

The Komenda Sugar Factory has been at the center stage of various discussions nationwide for a while now.

While Speaking on Cape Coast based Eagle FM in a recent interview during his tour of the Central Region, President Akufo-Addo, stated that the decision taken by his predecessor, Former President John Dramani Mahama, to build the Komenda Sugar factory, without first establishing a sugarcane plantation, betrays every principle of construction.

It will be recalled that during an interview on Cape FM, former President Mahama stated that “I’m not that foolish to set up a factory and have no plan for the provision of raw materials. I knew what the vision was. It was to get the raw materials first”.

The old factory, built in 1964, became defunct about 30 years ago due to technical difficulties and mismanagement. So resuming operations at the factory was a perfect opportunity to do things right this time around.

7,300 jobs were expected to be created when the factory runs fully.
