The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Hon. Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu, has taken the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to court over human rights abuses.
This comes after several attempts by the police to arrest the Madina Lawmaker for leading a demonstration against bad roads in his constituency, which allegedly led to the destruction of public property.
New developments in relation to issue available to InsiderGH.com shows that Lawyer Sosu has filed a human rights action pursuant to Article 33 of the 1992 Constitution and Order 67 of the High Court (Civil Procedures) Rules, C. I 4 for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.
The law suit, which was filed on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 also contains an injunction application to restrain any further attempt at unlawful arrest of the MP until the full determination of the Human Rights action.
The Madina MP, who is currently on Parliamentary duties outside the country, also seeks an enforcement of his right to freedom of movement, right to protest and demonstrate, right to personal liberty, right to freedom of expression and right against unlawful arrest and malicious prosecution.
