The bench warrant issued by the Kaneshie District Court for the arrest of Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, has been withdrawn.
This comes after the Madina MP filef a stay of execution.
The Madina Lawmaker in his suit asked the court to rescind the warrant, which he describes as unlawful and unreasonable.
“I have instructed my lawyers and two actions have been filed today, Tuesday, November 30, 2021. The application to the High Court for Stay of Execution and for an order setting aside the said Bench Warrant issued on November 29, 2021, is fixed for hearing on Wednesday, December 8, 2021,” a portion of a statement from the MP’s office stated.
In a new development, the Kaneshie District Court has withdrawn the bench warrant it has issued for the arrest of the Madina Lawmaker.
A warrant was issued by the Kaneshie District Court for the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu.
The warrant was issued after the Madina lawmaker failed to appear before the District Court on three occasions since criminal charges were filed against him after leading a demonstration in his constituency.
Arguing in court on Monday, November 23, 2021, the Prosecutor,ASP Sylvestre Asare insisted that the Madina lawmaker cannot be allowed to send a anyone to represent him in a criminal matter.
According to the prosecutor, Lawyer Sosu “has a clear intention and has demonstrated that to this court. It amounts to disrespect to this court.”
Speaking in court, Mr. Victor Adawudu, lawyer for the Madina MP told the court the Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu is attending a parliamentary committee meeting hence his inability to show up in court.
The court has however issued a warrant for the Madina Lawmaker to be arrested.
