Popular Ghanaian actress Akuapem Poloo, whose real name is Rosemond Alade Brown, lost her appeal to the Accra High Court, which sought to overturn the Accra Circuit Court’s decision to sentence her to 90 days in prison on April 16 of this year.
In the absence of the convict, the court ruled that Akuapem Poloo’s child be delivered to any family member who is capable of caring for him.
Akuapem Poloo was found guilty of posting a nude photo of herself and her seven-year-old son on June 30, 2020, his birthday.
She pleaded guilty to all three charges and was convicted on her own plea by the court though she had initially pleaded not guilty.
She was handed her sentence on April 16, 2021, by an Accra circuit court — she was sentenced to 90 days in prison though she pleaded that she posted the photo so that her son will be aware of the fantastic work she has done for his development in the future.
The photo, however, was interpreted as a violation of the young boy’s rights, and child rights organizations took up the case, reporting her to the police, who then arraigned her in court and sentenced her to 90 days in prison.
Though she served a period into her term, her lawyers appealed the judgement considering it too harsh.
She was subsequently granted an GH¢80,000 bail, pending the determination of the appeal.
Some hours ago, the Court declared her appeal as one without merit. She was subsequently ordered to go back and continue her 90-day imprisonment.
