Former Minister for Power under the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has reacted to recent reports that Godfred Yeaboah Dame, the Attorney General, is planning to investigate those who were responsible for the deal that led to the $170m GPGC Judgement Debt.

His comments were in reaction to the Attorney General’s decision to task the Criminals Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate Former Ministers and officials of the NDC government who were involved in the signing of the contract.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront in an interview monitored by, Dr Donkor said he is ready to face the investigative bodies over the contract he entered into with GPGC.

According to him, the Attorney General is only hunting for a scapegoat for what he sees as wrongful termination of the contract.

“I am a law-abiding Ghanaian. If the CID says they want to investigate something, what do I have to hide?” he quizzed.

He also stated that “I will go to the CID. This is not the first time I have been called to the CID.”

Dr Donkor further questioned the basis under which the Akufo-Addo-led government cancelled the contract.

He revealed that when he “saw a couple of the termination letters, the basis of termination, the operating phrase was that they had not obtained an energy commission license. In the agreement, government was obliged to assist them to obtain all licenses and permits so if we have that obligation on our path, we don’t turn round and use that as an excuse a reason to terminate.”
