A Senior Lecturer in the Biostatistics Department of the University of Ghana, Dr. Justice Moses Aheto has underlined the need for the NDC to invest in its Research Desk to increase the fortunes and progress of the party.
He was speaking in a virtual meeting organized by Comrade Albert Aheto, a deputy Dome Kwabenya constituency director of elections for the opposition NDC under the auspices of a Pro NDC group, Rejuvenated NDC Hub which was chaired by Comrade Juliet Addison Sackey a die hard NDC Activist based in USA.
The meeting had the theme; The Role of Rejuvenated NDC Hub to Make The NDC Extremely Attractive For The 2024 Elections.
Beginning his speech with the saying “if you can’t measure, you can’t manage”, Dr. Aheto stressed the relevance of research to the party’s fortunes and survival saying no political party can move forward without a robust research department manned by seasoned and professionals provided with the required tools and other resources needed to deliver results in a timely manner. He decried the current state of the party’s Research Desk and called for more to be done to rejuvenate and position the party well ahead of its opponents. Dr. Aheto was the Lead Statistician who helped the party after its disputed defeat in the 2020 election to audit the Statement of Poll, known as the “Pink Sheet” of which many discrepancies between the EC and the Party’s figures were uncovered.
Answering a question from a participant on how to retool the desk, he was optimistic as “the good news is that the party hierarchy knows the critical role that research can play in the utmost survival of the party. They are aware of this and so should take steps to correct things”. He said even though a few executives are committed towards that cause, “we need the whole group on board to drive this because without a concerted effort, we’ll only achieve little in this regard”.
The NDC lost the highly disputed 2020 elections which many domestic and international observers concluded that even though the voting process was fairly transparent, the counting and collation process in most centers are not credible enough. The party is therefore seeking to re-strategize for victory in the next 2024 general elections.
The “Rejuvenated NDC Hub” group promised to organize more of such meetings to proffer solutions and take concrete actions for the forward march of the party.
