The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has taken a swipe at his boss, President Akufo-Addo, saying he can manage the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) better when given the chance to lead the party.
Speaking at a meeting with selected NPP delegates in the Northern Region to enhance his effort to become the party’s flagbearer in 2024, Afriyie Akoto stated he is the most dominant person in the party who can sweep the votes in the Northern Region for the party.
“For the first time we had more than 40% of the votes in this region. It means that if we look well in the party we could defeat the NDC in this region. I want it to happen,” he stated during the meeting.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto also stated that he is confident that the way the selected delegates have shown solidarity to him is an indication that the NPP will survive and will be stronger under his leadership in 2024.
He disclosed that he is motivated to run for President in order to salvage what he termed “the neglect by the top of the grassroots”.
Dr. Akoto was campaigning actively in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region, which is in complete contravention of the New Patriotic Party’s code of conduct.
