Reports reaching indicates that the Government of Ghana is making plans to purchase a new Presidential Jet.

This comes after a revelation made by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region of Ghana.

According to the North Tongu lawmaker, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo spent a whopping Ghc2.8m on a private jet on his recent trips to France and Johannesburg.

In a piece on his Facebook page, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that the president decided to rent an aircraft that cost the Ghanaian taxpayer £15,000 an hour.

Amidst the hardship and the numerous complaints by Ghanaians on the lavish trips of the President, there are plans by government to order a new Presidential Jet that can carry about 70 to 100 passengers.

According to the Minister for Defence, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, it would be important for the state to buy a new aircraft that can carry a better payload.

The Minister also revealed that “the Ghana Airforce is once again requesting for a multi-functional aircraft to add to its inventory as a requisite command and control asset, to be able to connect Ghana’s National Security to diplomacy.”

The Minister made these statements on the floor of Parliament while answering questions on Wednesday June 16, about the cost of renting a presidential jet for President Akufo-Addo’s recent trip to Europe.
