It has emerged that the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) is hatching plans to use a loan of €116,384,500 (814,691,500.00) to breakdown and rebuild the Accra Internal Conference Center which was built in 1991 to host the 10th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement which has since become the hub for many national and monumental events for the past three decades.
According to Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration who made this revelation in parliament, the 800 million cedis loan has already been secured for the reconstruction of the Accra International Conference Center.
The Minority Group in parliament has however expressed serious concerns over the lack of transparency in the procurement process.
According to them, details of the procurement procedures leave much to be desired.
The Accra International Conference Centre is a famous meeting venue located in the Christiansborg area in Osu, Accra.
The centre was constructed in 1991 and was built in modern style.
It has six halls with a total capacity of 6000 people; the largest hall seats 1600 people. All the halls have modern equipment.
