The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe has indicated the period in which the vaccine for the dreaded Covid-19 will be made available to Ghana.

In a Joy News interview monitored by www.insidergh.com, the Director indicated that the first batch of Covid-19 vaccine will be available in the country by the the first quarter of 2021. He stated that, the vaccine will come sequentially and this will go on for about one year. This means that, Ghana will not get all the vaccines at once — it will come and continue to come throughout the year.

The Ghana Health Service plans to use the vaccine on the health workers first, considering their high level exposure to the virus, in order to save them so they can continue to save others too.

According to him, the government has formed a committee which is working together with West African experts for the production of our own Ghanaian made Covid-19 vaccine.

In the President’s twentieth address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of coronavirus, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assured that Ghana will not be left behind in having access to the vaccine. The president went ahead to make known the fact that he has put together a team of experts from all the relevant institutions and agencies, and has tasked them to ensure the procurement and deployment of the vaccine in Ghana.
