The Ghana Police Service have issued a statement about the communication of prophecies of doom ahead of the upcoming 31st Night Celebrations.

According to them, whereas the 1992 Constitution guarantees the right to religion, freedom of worship and free speech, all these rights are subject to the respect for the rights and freedoms of others.

The statement further stressed that though various religious leaders have given prophecies of doom over the years, it must be noted that such doom prophecies and other reports that are likely to cause fear and panic or disturb public peace, especially when there is no proof, is a crime under the laws governing Ghana.
