The Security and Exchange Commission in the United States has found former boss of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Mr. Asante Berko guilty for making arrangements for millions of dollars be paid in bribe to some officials of the Government of Ghana for a client to win a power plant contract.
According to reports, Mr. Asante Berko is required to pay about$329,000 to settle the case with the United States Security and Exchange Commission without denying the regulators allegations.
Mr. Asante Berko was said to have facilitated the payment of $4.5 million as bribe in order for him to help an energy company based in Turkey to win a juicy contract to build a power plant in Ghana.
According to the US SEC, Mr Asante Berko went ahead to personally pay at least $66,000.00 to Members of the Ghanaian Parliament in order to facilitate his agenda.
Sources also revealed that Aska Energy is the name of the Turkish energy company involved in the case.
According to SEC, the Turkish energy company sent money to an intermediary, who subsequently used the money as payment for bribes to influence officials of the Government of Ghana.
