President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has on Friday, December 10, 2021 sent a strong warning to ambitious Ministers in his government aspiring to succeed him to either focus on the job he has given them or resign to pursue their presidential ambition.

The President’s warning came at the back of growing anxiety within Government and the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) over campaign activities of some few members of Government who are aspiring to succeed President Akufo-Addo as the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, an election which is three years away.

He criticized the premature move of the Ministers in his government who are busily campaigning to succeed him, stressing that not even the 17 candidates who contested for the 2008 NPP presidential slot, including 13 who were in the Government in 2005, were seen to be actively campaigning within the first year of the second term of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

During the meeting, which was shifted from Thursday to Friday because of the funeral of the late statesman and leading architect of both the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Capt (Rtd) Kojo Tsikata, the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante outlined what is expected of every Minister in the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.

After the Secretary to the President outlined what is expected of the Ministers, President Akufo-Addo gave a spirited no-words-mincing warning that he would sack any Minister who defied his orders.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s steering committee has at its meeting on Thursday, December 9, 2021, condemned the rate at which billboards of aspiring candidates are springing up across the country. According to them, such moves are only conveying a wrong, loud impression of misplaced priority.
