The First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu has rejected Minority Leader, Hon Haruna Iddrisu’s Motion about a ruling of the First Deputy Speaker on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
In a new letter sighted by InsiderGH.com, the First Deputy Speaker has through the Clerk to Parliament, sent a new letter to the Minority Leader, informing him about his decision rejection of the Motion the Minority Leader filed.
Below is the letter;
This comes after the Minority Caucus have made another attempt to quash the approval of the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by filing a motion on the conduct of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, over his ruling on the motion to overturn the approval of the 2022 budget.
The motion signed by the Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, requested the House to “sets aside the purported ruling of the 1st Deputy Speaker, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu, MP delivered on Wednesday, 1st December 2021 against the motion moved by the Hon. Minority Leader, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu and seconded by the Hon. Member of Bawku Central, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, as captured on page 9 of the votes and proceedings of Wednesday, 1st December, 2021.”
The Minority Caucus believes that the Second Deputy Speaker, Mr Joseph Osei Owusu, erred in the manner he handled proceedings during the approval of the budget by a one sided House without the Minority, as well as during the initial move to set aside the approval.
An earlier motion by the Minority to to quash the approval of the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy has failed.
