Information from reliable sources reaching InsiderGH.com indicates that Ghanaian youngster, Felix Afena-Gyan who is currently playing for Italian Serie A side AS Roma is highly unlikely to play at the 2022 African Cup of Nations.
This comes after Milovan Rajevac, the Coach of the senior national team, has on Tuesday, December 21, announced a 30-man provisional squad including the youngster for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The squad will begin camping on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in Doha, Qatar for a 17-day training camp in preparation for AFCON 2022 which kicks off on Sunday, January, 09, 2022
According to our source, the Ghana Football Association is fully aware that Afena-Gyan is 95% staying at AS Roma at the moment and very unlikely to make it to the Black Stars camp.
In case it happens that he fails to show up for camping, no replacement will be invited.
Earlier this month, his representative has disclosed that the AS Roma forward is not ready to accept call up to play for the Black Stars in the upcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
The promising 18 year old forward was handed a call up to the national team for the final group game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa last month he declined the invitation.
“I don’t think we have to rush Afena-Gyan. Whenever he comes on, he makes an impact but, he needs time to play consistently, start games, build confidence then he’ll be ready for the national team,” his agent staed.
