The Volta Regional Human Resource Director of the Ghana Education Service Mr. Edem Kofi Kpotosu has urged teachers to exhibit commitment in the teaching profession.

His comment comes in the wake of a final inter-school competition dubbed BaSAQ-C organized by the member of Parliament for Ho West constituency on Friday September 10th themed ‘Teacher Commitment, a Panacea to Weak Academic Performance’

In a statement delivered by Mr. Edem Kofi Kpotosu, he pointed out that teachers have an obligation to help students both academically and non-academically. “..I wish to use this platform to urge you to help students both within and outside the classroom. This helps you know the child in the classroom and same child outside of the classroom settings. It can be made possible by engaging with these children in extra or co-curricular activities and can only be materialised by way of commitment and dedication to service”.

He additionally urged teachers to hold all other factors constant(ie. renumeration and government policies) and be committed to the children they look up to train and nurture, citing that schoolchildren are innocent. This he indicated goes a long way to build the nation we desire.

Mr. Kpotosu conclusively praised the Ho West legislator for the initiative and however suggested that it be extended from four to six zones within the Ho-West constituency to increase numerical strength of participating schools.

In a related development, Mr. Edem Kpotosu urged government to develop interest in basic and secondary school competitions at the district levels not with the ultimate aim of crowning first positions but to rather grant these young ones the opportunity to build their self confidence , enhance their public speaking , deepen their critical thinking skills and above all , raising potentials since this is a decentralized way of raising educational standard across the country.
