Dzifa Gunu, a member of the National Communication team of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reacted to the massive disregard for Covid-19 protocols during the funeral of the late Sir John at his hometown, Sakora Wonoo, in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region.

In July 2020, reports sighted by has it that the former General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly referred to as Sir John, died of covid-19.

The body of Sir John was laid in state at Sakora Wonoo Junior High School from the morning of Wednesday, June 2 to Thursday, June 3, 2021.

Videos from the funeral shows that there was no real regard for Covid-19 protocols as the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has always been stressing.

Reacting to the videos, Dzifa Gunu took to his Facebook page to question why the Ghana Police Service couldn’t ensure that Covid-19 protocols were strictly observed during the funeral of Sir John.

He went further to question why the Ghana Police Service could supervise an event during which Covid-19 protocols were not in any way observed, but deployed hot water tanks as if they were going to war, just to prevent Ghanaians from embarking on a peaceful “Fix The Country” demonstration.


After they lifted the body of the late Sir John, supporters of Hon. Alan Kyeremateng, Minister for Trade and Industry and NPP Presidential Candidate hopeful, followed the Minister, singing songs that shows their support for him.

Few minutes later, massive crowds identified as “NPP delegates” started moving towards the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also a Presidential Candidate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party.
