Former President John Mahama has asked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives not to prevent anyone from contesting in the party’s primaries ahead of the 2024 elections.
“From next year, we (NDC) will begin our branch, constituency, regional and national elections. From there we will do our flagbearership elections.”
“The NDC is a democratic party so all those who show interest and qualify to contest must be allowed to do so. We must all support whoever emerge for 2024 elections, and I am certain that God will give us victory,” the former President said in a Cape Coast where he was for his ‘Thank you tour’ on Thursday.
He stated that because the NDC is a democratic party, everyone who expresses interest and qualifies to run for office must be allowed to do so.
It comes after rumors that Dr Kwabena Duffuor, the former governor of the Central Bank, is planning to run for the party’s flagbearer in the 2024 election.
A video has been posted by the former Finance Minister’s team in which he is seen inviting NDC members to register at their various branches.
The former President also called for a united front to win the 2024 General Elections. He went ahead to encourage Ghanaians to join the NDC to help put an end to the hardship brought by the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration.
