Today marks the 74th birthday of late Former President Jerry John Rawlings. He was born on June 22, 1947 at Accra.

Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he had been admitted a week earlier

On the occasion of his birthday, Members of Parliament remembered and celebrated him by giving Hon. Kofi Adams, MP for Buem, who is a former Spokesperson and Director Of Public Affairs for the late Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings to make a statement on the floor of Parliament to celebrate and remember him for his role in the political and socioeconomic development of Ghana.

Hon. Kofi Adams, in his statement, remembered Former President Rawlings as someone who was admired locally and globally for his charisma, sincerity, passion, drive, patriotism and commitment to the pursuit of the anti-corruption agenda.

According to him, since Rawlings led the uprising against the political and economic decay confronting the country 42 years ago, he has never wavered in his pursuit of the ideals of freedom, justice, probity and accountability.

“Ghana’s road to economic and political recovery after the retrogression of the 1970s was initiated by His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, when he launched the pragmatic Economic Recovery Programme to revive the financial health of Ghana and engender economic growth and sustenance,” the statement further reads.
