The interim President of Guinea since 1 October 2021, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya has told Guinea’s senior national soccer team to do everything possible to win the African Cup of Nations trophy or bring back the money the nation has invested in them as they prepare to kick start their campaign against Malawi on January 10, 2022.
“Bring back the trophy or bring back the money we invested in you. Period,” President Doumbouya stated while addressing the team at a send off ceremony.
President Doumbouya who led a coup d’état on September 5, 2021, and overthrew President Alpha Condé, is hopeful that Guinea’s national team will bring glory to Guineans by lifting the AFCON trophy in Cameroon.
He also presented the team with the national flag and urged them to make the nation proud.
Guinea is in Group B of the much anticipated 2022 AFCON, together with Zimbabwe, Senegal and Malawi.
The 2022 AFCON tournament will start on Sunday, January, 09, 2022 with host nation, Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso at 16:00 GMT.
