A serious fight has erupted in Parliament some few minutes ago during voting on whether the controversial E-Levy should be considered under a certificate of urgency or not.

This comes after the Majority side of the House made moves earlier in the day for the E-levy to be passed under a certificate of urgency.

During voting on the Bill at the Committee level, all the 12 NDC MPs in the Finance Committee of Parliament voted No while all the 12 NPP MPs voted YES.

However, the Chairman of the Finance committee, Hon. Kweku Kwateng, exercised his casting vote to tilt the outcome in favour the NPP MPs, paving way for the Bill to be considered by the House.

Currently, there is massive chaos on the floor of the house.

The fight erupted after the First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu who was presiding over the House vacated the chair of the Speaker for the second deputy speaker to preside, ostensibly so his vote could be counted.

Prior to the voting process, the First Deputy Speaker explained that he is entitled to his original casting votes the moment he leaves the chair of the Speaker.

That seems to have provoked the National Democratic Congress MPs, who questioned his decision to vote after presiding over the night’s proceedings.
