Today, April 3, 2021 Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, a member of National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, has broken silence on the arrest of Mr David Tamakloe, the Editor-in-chief of Whatsup News, on his Facebook page.
Mr. David Tamakloe was arrested on April 1, 2021 by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the basis of alleged publication of false news and attempted extortion.
He has been released and ordered to report on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. According to Lawyer Goodwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Ghana Police Service has manufactured evidence to paint the suspect guilty. This is because Mr Asoma Hinneh, a senior police officer and the husband of the plaintiff, Mrs Eunice Boah Asomah Hinneh, wants to help his wife at all cost.
“I have avoided two interviews from Joyfm and Starrfm on this issue.
Now that the Ghana Police Service decided to put that fabricated narrative out, we will go all out. Please if you are close to Senior Police officer who is desirous of helping the wife, Mrs Eunice Boah Asomah Hinneh, let the Police withdraw that statement before 11am”, he said.
Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe asseverated in his Facebook post that the initial arrest of Mr David Tamakloe was based on alleged “false publication” without any charges for extortion. This is because the Mr David Tamakloe was in a process of giving fair hearing to all the accuse persons in the case before publishing it. Therefore, the extortion charges was an after thought agenda with no legal backing.
He wrote that “His junior officers took a statement from David Tamakloe on Thursday for the offence of false publication. Thursday, there was no issue of blackmail or extortion. It is an afterthought because I pointed out to the Investigator, Inspector Charles Adjei that he is yet to publish the story. That he is still speaking to the people involved to ensure fairness.”
Moreover, Lawyer Goodwin Edudzi Tamakloe inferred that the a plaintiff, Mrs Eunice Boah Asomah Hinneh, agreed to meet Mr David Tamakloe at Tema and later thanked him for revealing the allegations some people have levelled against her.
Therefore, Mr Asoma Hinneh has embarked on an legal adventure to hurt his wife by arresting and releasing a “fabricated narrative” against the Mr David Tamakloe.
“Mr Asoma Hinneh, it is natural to try to protect and defend your wife, your approach in causing the arrest of David and this unprofessional statement from the Police will hurt only your wife”, he said.
