Armed robbers assaulted Adansi Akrofuom constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Chairman, John Kwabena Ampong, in Adamso, Ashanti Region.
According to reports, the robbers fled with GHS 11,000 in cash and six pounds of gold valued GHS 15,000.
In an interview with Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo, Mr Ampong, who is also a gold dealer, described the trauma, saying he was with his wife when the incident occurred.
Mr Ampong claimed that he was sleeping when he heard a knock on his door and a man say he wanted to buy gold.
When he opened the door, he was accosted by three armed men.
The victim added that if it hadn’t been for God, the robbers would have killed them after stealing their belongings.
DSP Martin Asenso, the Obuasi District Commander, confirmed the news, saying his patrolmen received a distress call from Adamso and raced to the location.
One of the robbers was preparing to run when the men shot him, resulting in his arrest.
DSP Asenso went on to say that the thief had been brought to Obuasi Government Hospital for treatment and would be arraigned later.
The robbers are also claimed to have attacked a resident named Kofi Asante.
Adamso residents, who say they are now living in fear due to the constant robberies, have begged for the community’s street lights to be repaired.
