President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has authorized Savannah Regional Minister Saeed Muhazu Jibril to renominate Veronica Alele and Tamimu Mohammed of the Bole District and East Gonja Municipal Assembly, respectively, for confirmation or rejection.

On Sunday, October 10, 2021 in Damongo, Saeed Muhazu Jibril made the revelation to Iddrisu Adam Afuli (Korongo) on Damongo’s Peace and Development radio (Radio PAD 95.1mhz) program “Aboya Gbon.”

The 21-day timeframe following the president’s nomination of the two nominees has elapsed, according to the standing orders.

According to the regional minister, “the president has asked me to write officially to the two assemblies alerting them of the renomination of Alele Veronica of Bole district and Tamimu Mohammed for the East Gonja municipality.”

He promised that new dates for their confirmation would be published soon.

On Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Bole, Hon Alele Veronica received less than half of the 39 votes (17 yes votes, totaling 43.58 percent).

Section 15 (7) of the MMDAs states that “Any nominee who at any time FAILS to poll FIFTY PERCENT of the votes of the members present and voting “may be renominated on reasonable grounds or may be withdrawn by the president”.

After some disruptions during the electoral process in Salaga, the election for the East Gonja Municipal Assembly was called off on October 4, 2021.

The Savannah Regional Minister is anticipated to send an official letter to both assemblies informing them of their renomination.

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, all five verified MDCEs in the Savannah region were sworn in.
