The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency and Ranking Member of Parliament’s committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dragged the Minister for Defence and Minister for Finance to Parliament over the recent extravagant trips made by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

As reported by on 27th May, 2021, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa has alleged that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo spent a whopping Ghc2.8m on a private jet on his recent trips to France and Johannesburg.

In a piece on his Facebook page, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that the president decided to rent an aircraft that cost the Ghanaian taxpayer £15,000 an hour.

He further added that the President left Accra for Paris on the 16th of May and then from Paris to Johannesburg and back to Accra on the 25th of May accumulating a total of 23 hours amounting to a colossal £345,000. At the current exchange, the amount totals GHS2,828,432.80.

He subsequently filed questions to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin in relation to the President’s trip. The questions he filed have been admitted by the Speaker.

According to Parliament’s business statement for this week, the Minister for Defence, Hon Dominic Ntiwul is expected to appear before the house on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, to answer questions on whether Ghana’s Presidential Jet, the Falcon 900 EX Easy, is in a good shape or not.

The Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori-Atta, will also appear before the house on Thursday, June 17, 2021, to answer questions on the actual cost of President Akufo-Addo’s recent trips to France, Belgium and South Africa.
