Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of policy think tank, IMANI Africa, has expressed his views on the abandoned Saglemi Housing Project which was started by the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration.
In the past weeks, several Ghanaians took to social media to question the way forward as far as the Saglemi Housing Project is concerned since it appears that the current government seemed to have no plans for the project.
Many are those who think the project was abandoned by the current NPP government basically because it was started by an NDC administration.
Expressing his concerns via his Facebook page, Mr. Kofi Bentil associates the Saglemi Housing Project mess to bad leadership.
According to him, “an understanding of the Saglemi mess will make you understand how bad leadership is keeping Ghana down”.
In March this year, the Ministry of Works and Housing has said it will ensure the completion of work on the abandoned $280 million project.
The Saglemi housing project was initially planned to deliver 5,000 housing units. However, the scope of works was revised, which has become a subject for police investigation.
According to the Director of Housing at the Ministry of Works and Housing, Dr. Theresa Tuffour, out of the 1,502 units at the Saglemi project site, the contractors completed 1,389, pending the installation of utilities.
She said 386 units were at various stages of completion, while 139 town houses had been completed, awaiting the provision of utilities.
